Iteration number TWO: Terra Cotta and Herrick Library

20161007_104931

Reflection:

As a group, we started off with a completely different idea than we actually ended up doing. Although I had felt at the time that I would rather have gone with our initial plan, I was super happy in the end that we did what we planned.

At the beginning, when we were gathering research at Terra Cotta, it seemed like there were multiple people within the group who did not put forth the amount of effort that some of the others were. First, we went and took notes of the building and sketched specific parts.

After this step, we decided to go to both the Terra Cotta as well as Herrick (because we needed to also go to a non-profit location) and quietly take notes on the employees Every member of our group went at different times of the day for a total of two days and gathered information such as, how many people came and left, how many times the employee greeted the customer, etc. A few of us even approached the employees and asked questions like “how often do you greet the customer”. We then tallied up all of our information and reviewed it as a group.

In conclusion, I really enjoyed what we decided to do and think that our group put it great effort. I didn’t really feel like our conclusion resulted in anything or impacted anything to greatly but it was still interested to find all of this information out.

Paper Airplanes :)

For our plan, we would rip pages out of our Zeen and create multiple paper airplanes. We would then go to various different buildings, and throw them out of windows when people pass. Although this could cause some anger for people, we hope that most would be drawn to the paper airplane when they realize its not just regular paper. Image result for paper airplanes

Homework – Story telling 9/22/16

Iteration #1:

I took this photo standing at the very top level of Scholes Library, looking down. In our silent presentation, one of the last pictures we took, was of all of us standing at various different locations on each flight of stairs.

I figured that by taking a picture of the same staircase, in a very similar location to the original photograph, it tells the story not only of the fact that we visited every level of Scholes – including the attic, but it represents the process of the original photograph we took.

Personally, this is my favorite photograph out of all the ones I took. I think that you are able to really see how large Scholes Library is without even seeing how spacious the levels and rooms actually are.

Iteration #2:

At the very beginning of our silent presentation, we as a group read the directions wrong and met up at Scholes rather than Cohen. We then traveled to the Cohen studios only to realize that we were originally supposed to meet there and travel to Scholes as a group. So we then ventured back to the library.

I figured that this picture would be a good representation at the very start of our story. I also like how it is taken from the outside looking in so that you can directly see where I was when I took this photo.

Iteration #3:

This personally is another one of the favorite photos that I took. I like it especially because it’s somewhat a self portrait even though it is a reflection of myself. I also transferred it to B&W to give the photograph more story.

This, in my opinion, ties in with the whole plot of our silent presentation. Our goal as a group was to take posed, weird, pictures with each other and random people in different places of the library. The pose that I am doing is similar to what both A and B group decided to do in many of the pictures we captured the day of our presentation.

Iteration #4:

For this iteration, I decided to describe, step-by-step our groups process for the silent group performance to 3 people – to of which I didn’t know. Before going out and actually shooting videos and taking pictures of Scholes to re-create our project, and noticed my roommate and two of her friends sitting in the lobby of our residence hall.

I didn’t tell any of them up front that I was resting the information for a homework assignment for class, but instead, casually brought up the topic to see what their reactions would be.  I started off by basically stating that I was in Scholes with some buddies, and we decided to go around and take pictures with people in various different poses. I then stated how we did this completely silent for a good hour or so.

Surprisingly enough they all found this pretty amusing, and actually asked me questions about what peoples reactions were, if we got in trouble, and they even asked to see the pictures.

Iteration #5:

Iteration number ONE: SILENT GROUP PERFORMANCE

Surprisingly enough, I had a blast doing the silent group performance in the Scholes Library. We all gathered on the main floor, wearing our red vests of course, and as soon as everybody from our group arrived, we stopped talking. We communicated strictly through writing on whiteboards, typing on our phone notepads, and mouthing words to one another. Although this was a bit of a struggle, especially at first, we all seemed to have a fun time doing so, and I think it also helped us come out of our shells and be more comfortable with each other.

We ended up reading the directions on the blog wrong, and walked to Cohen, to then realize that we were supposed to START at Cohen, and travel to Scholes. So after throwing silent fits, we traveled BACK to Scholes and decided to split into two smaller groups. We had one group remain on the first floor, while my group traveled up to the third floor as well as visiting the attic.

The first group went around taking pictures with random people, wether the people were aware that they were being photographed or not. The second group (my group) started doing the same thing but we ended up taking planned pictures in strange positions in places throughout the library instead. For example, we all crowded into the girl’s bathroom on the third floor (boys included), went into a stall, and took a photo featuring the toilet. You can say that we got very strange looks from people as all 8 of us emerged from the girls bathroom at once.

Individual Research 9/9/16-9/14/16

Friday: On Friday, September 9th, I decided to go to Scholes Library and document the first floor. I wrote down details about the building that I felt I would forget if I chose not to write them down. For example, I wrote down what color the walls were for both the lobby  as well as the actual library on the main floor , how many chairs, desks, and computers there were, how many sections of books there were, etc.

Saturday: I used Saturday to study the various videos that I had previously took on Thursday. I decided to make a college of a couple different clips from both the first, second, and third floor of the library.

Sunday: Sunday was the day that I created my motion drawings of my a few of my favorite clips from the video collage from the previous day.

Monday: On Tuesday I collected some cardboard and brought it to the Cohen studios to help with the group project. I didn’t have a chance to do research for my selected building.

Tuesday:This was the day, that a bunch of us from the group gathered in Cohen studios to really get going with our model. We divided into three smaller groups, and my job was to first, break apart cardboard, as well as create one wall of our cardboard building. I also went on a duct tape run to buy 3 more rolls of tape for our building once we ran out.
